Never give up. If you don’t know, in addition to music, I also coach youth soccer. Never give up is our cheer before each game, and this year, our team had an undefeated season. Never give up has applied to all facets of my life, including music. Especially, music. Having done many albums before BSL and currently working on a seventh Black Swan Lane record, writers block tends to set in. The ideas are not as plentiful as they used to be and when they are present, we tend to be hyper-critical about them.  Basically, for every four songs we create, one will make it to an album. (I’m saying this because, yes, our seventh album is running quite late.) I want to be able to listen to a track over and over again and not tire of it. Relax and Breathe is one of those songs. It is from two albums ago, The Last Time In Your Light, which was meant to be the very last one. Hence, the title..
 
Never give up. Our wonderful fans from around the world wanted more, so we kept going. And most of all, our friend and manager, pushed for more and helped get me back on my feet after several health issues were attempting to get me to actually give up. This positive reinforcement came after our US tour ended in 2012 and before The Last Time In Your Light came out in 2013. One of her letters to me ended with the sign off, Relax and Breathe… This song helped define the direction of the album as well as my life at the time.
 
We went right back in the studio after the release of The Last Time In Your Light and never got around to playing any of those tracks live. Several months ago we decided to start playing them. I have posted the live video of Relax and Breathe here, which is the first time we ever played it live. Chris could not make the show, so we subbed out one of the guitars with the very talented John Hamm on keys. Enjoy xx
